Wantan Mee at Restoran Okay, SS2

One fine day in office, as usual me and my Makan team colleagues were thinking of what to eat later for lunch. After cracking our heads for about half an hour, I suddenly thought of a wantan mee stall reviewed by KY Speaks. It is in a kopitiam called Restoran Okay, and located at a part of SS2 that I've never venture into before.

After braving through the heavy lunchtime traffic in that neighbourhood, I finally reach our destination. This 2 rows of shophouses are right in the middle of a housing area. Although its much much quieter here as compared to the commercial square on the opposite side, parking can still be a problem during lunch time.

Once you overcome the parking problem, finding a table in the restaurant can be your next headache.

The wantan mee stall is at the side of the restaurant. You know you are at the right one when you see people swarming around the stall, and few staff working non-stop preparing those countless plates of wantan mee. The cook is a typical singlet-wearing Chinese Ah Pek (old uncle).

Looking at the long queue, I decided to order some dim sums first as my stomach was making some really loud noises. A couple manned this stall, and they seems to be English-speaking people, very friendly too. Their dim sum is just so so though, and each cost about RM2.80 to RM3.50. No way as good as the dim sums at Restoran Kam Hin if you ask me.

The wantan mee came after about 10-15 minutes (long if your official lunch time is just an hour). It looks pretty much like a normal plate of wantan mee you can find elsewhere. But once you stir it for awhile and put it in your mouth, yummmm......what a bliss!

The egg noodle itself is incredibly crunchy and the texture of the noodle is near-perfect, with a slight bite to it. I am sure they have some secret ingredient for their soy sauce gravy as well, because it's slightly different from the ones sold elsewhere. I can't really describe that special taste but believe me, it's simply delicious!

While their char siew (BBQ pork) is a tad too dry and lean for me, their Sui Kow (steamed dumplings) were very good. The size is huge and its filled with yummy prawn and water chesnuts.

Their wantan is slightly bigger than the usual ones too, with the balanced amount of minced meat and shrimp wrapped with thin but firm lye-water pastry wrapper.

While still eating our wantan mee, me and my colleagues were already planning another trip back here to try other varieties of this wantan mee stall. What are you waiting for?

I enjoy your food blog! :D

Anyway, Metro Tab is in Tmn Melawati, Wangsa Maju. My two ex-JIC friends left that church quite some time ago...about 7 years now I think. Btw, I didn't know that where Rextoran Nasi Kandar Kayu is still part of SS2 ;)
